Tree Pruning & Hedge Trimming

Why Hedge Trimming Matters

Regular hedge trimming helps your property look neat and well-looked-after.

It also encourages healthy growth, prevents overgrowth into neighbours’ spaces or public paths and reduces potential safety hazards.

When left unmanaged hedges can become a real maintenance headache.

Our Hedge Trimming Service

Our team will visit your property, assess the condition and layout of your hedges, and recommend the best trimming schedule.

We carefully remove excess growth, tidy up edges and shape your hedges to maintain a clean, balanced and healthy structure.

For overgrown or neglected areas, trimming may be paired with our broader vegetation or site clearance services for a complete garden refresh.

All cut material is cleared away unless you prefer it left for wildlife habitat or reuse.

Why Tree Pruning Matters

Tree pruning isn’t just about shaping trees for looks. It supports tree health by removing dead or diseased branches, improving light and airflow through the canopy and reducing long-term risk to your property, neighbours and landscape.

Well-pruned trees live longer, look better and cause fewer problems.

Our Tree Pruning Service

Our arborists carry out a full on-site assessment of your trees before any work begins.

We then prune in line with best British arboricultural standards, including:

• Crown thinning
• Crown lifting
• Deadwood removal
• Structural pruning

We always preserve the natural form and structural integrity of the tree while improving its long-term condition.

For trees that have become dangerous due to storm damage or heavy decay, we also offer rapid-response emergency tree work and, if required, professional stump grinding and root removal after removal.

Whether it’s a small garden tree or a large exposed specimen, our team has the training, equipment and experience to deliver a safe, clean and efficient service across Bishop’s Waltham and Hampshire.

Testimonials

Tree Pruning & Hedge Trimming

Excellent job completed by Jacob and Richard. I was very impressed with just how much they managed to get done in one day - removing two dead ash trees, two other trees that unfortunately needed to go, and crown lifting / pruning back 4 very large trees. Very pleased with the overall results. The wood was shredded or chopped up into logs and taken away. Worth mentioning that these guys are qualified to use a mechanical boom lift enabling them to get the whole job done in just one day, so the price was very reasonable. Would not hesitate to recommend.

Tree Pruning & Hedge Trimming

Jacob and his guys all did an excellent, neat job with my massive dead oak tree. They cleared my garden and left it clean without rushing despite it being a long day. They were professional, but also friendly throughout. Communication prior to and after the job was also excellent. I would definitely recommend the company.

FAQs

  • How often should hedges be trimmed?

Most hedges benefit from trimming once or twice a year, depending on the species and how formal you want them to look.

Fast-growing hedges like Leylandii may need more frequent maintenance to keep them healthy and within height limits.

Regular trimming also prevents hedges from becoming overgrown or uneven.

  • When is the best time of year to trim hedges?

The ideal time is usually late spring or early summer, once birds have finished nesting. Light maintenance trims can be done throughout the year but major cuts should be avoided in winter or during the nesting season. Always check for active nests before any hedge work.

  • How often should trees be pruned?

Most trees only need pruning every 3–5 years, depending on the species and how quickly they grow. Younger trees may need more regular formative pruning to shape them as they mature. Proper pruning helps maintain structure, remove hazards, and support healthy growth.

  • What is the best time of year for tree pruning?

Many trees are best pruned during late winter, when they are dormant and before new growth starts. However, some species like cherry, plum and other stone fruit trees are better pruned in summer. We can  advise the safest time for your specific tree.

  • Do I need permission to trim a hedge or prune a tree?

If your property is in a conservation area or the tree has a Tree Preservation Order (TPO), you will need permission from the local council before any work is carried out. If you’re unsure, we can check this for you and handle any required applications.

  • Can you trim hedges or prune trees that are close to roads or neighbouring properties?

Yes. Our team is trained and insured to work safely around boundaries, roads and tight access areas. We follow all safety guidelines and make sure neighbouring properties and public areas are respected and protected.

  • Will you remove all the waste after trimming or pruning?

Absolutely. All cuttings, branches and hedge trimmings can be removed from site and responsibly disposed of as part of the service. We can also leave wood chippings for mulch if you prefer.

  • How do I know if a tree needs pruning?

Signs include dead or dying branches, branches rubbing together, overhanging limbs, rapid growth or an unbalanced shape. If a tree looks unsafe or heavy on one side, it’s worth booking an inspection.

  • Can hedge trimming or pruning damage my plants?

When done correctly, trimming and pruning encourage healthier, stronger growth. Issues only occur when plants are cut too hard or at the wrong time of year, which is why using trained professionals helps avoid long-term damage.
